We want to employ a worker to facilitate peer support groups for women who have/are experienced domestic abuse and who also have poor mental health. Many of the women have already engaged with us either for refuge, tenancy issues, court issues, benefit issues, isolation issues or family contact issues. These groups would enable the beneficiaries to feel more connected, to feel better and have improved well-being.We envisage that the worker will engage with 85 women, facilitate 2 groups per week , organise structured activities and learning activities, led by the beneficiaries, and work on a one to one basis with beneficiaries, using a strength based approach to develop their skills to become more involved the groups/activities.We want the worker to deliver Recovery Toolkit, a bespoke domestic abuse framed course, that allows the beneficiaries to think about their experiences, strengths and goals. This course would run alongside the peer support groups.run 3 groups per week 1 in morning, afternoon and evening, and 1 training group.

Detailed consultation with clients using domestic abuse support services in the Carmarthen area has revealed that nearly all have outstanding debt (via credit cards, money loans, loans from friends and/or money owed on rent or utility bills) though they often did not identify these as “debt”. Furthermore, many women in the refuge have never had any control over finances or budgeting. A grant will employ a Money Coach to provide information, training and guidance on debt, maintaining a tenancy, understanding bank accounts and savings, controlling household budgets and financial planning. This will empower this vulnerable client group to reduce their debt and maximise their income.
