Safe in Sussex provide refuge provision to women and their children fleeing domestic abuse enabling them to recover and live free from abuse. In the community they provide peer support programmes to women and deliver healthy relationship programmes into primary and secondary schools. Funding was provided to enable them to provide group and one to one support to children aged 5-13 years living in abusive households to build their self-esteem, enable them to have a voice and to talk about their experiences whilst providing healthy relationship education.

The project provides a series of programmes for women including a course to enable them to understand the complexity of domestic violence, with the aim of helping women to understand the beliefs held by abusive people. It will aim to illustrate the effects of domestic violence both on themselves and on their children and help them gain self-esteem and confidence.

This continuation project by Worthing Women's Aid (WWA) is to provide an intervention programme for women, children and young people who have suffered or are still suffering from domestic violence. The aim is to help beneficiaries to recognise abuse and break the cycle that can occur. A significant element of the outreach work will involve intervention work in schools. The project's expansion will see additional staff hours and targeted training for male professionals who interact with vulnerable families.
