Organisation Lewisham Local are registered as a Private Company Limited by Guarantee (Lewisham Local Limited) since 2003 and a Charity since 2004.The charity began as a social prescribing project in a Doctor's surgery in 1998 under the name Rushey Green Timebank focusing the strengths individuals have in the community and connect them with others to create happier and healthier communities. They changed their name to Lewisham Local in March 2022. They initially developed local projects in the Rushey Green ward of Lewisham but have developed projects across the whole borough over the last 7 years to create a wider network of individuals community groups local businesses to connect give and share. The charity has diversified and grown over the years becoming a community development agency that co-produces projects with the community to address local needs. Additionally they run: • The Bank of Things- a donation project to address young people's lack of adequate education equipment and hygiene products. • Community toilets- coordination of businesses and charities providing access to their toilets to address the gap of the Council cutting public toilets. • Refill Lewisham- signing up 200+ community minded businesses providing free water refills to reduce single-use plastic waste. • COVID Response Hub- Led a partnership of 4 local charities and the Council to help 15000+ people with food parcels befriending information. • Voluntary sector infrastructure support - focused on capacity building in Lewisham’s voluntary sector in collaboration with other local charities. Proposal TimebankThe Timebank began approximately 24 years ago at GP surgery in Rushey Green. Doctors referred patients to Timebank to reduce social isolation and lonelinessd sign Timebank's values and a code of conduct. Ideas for new projects and developments rely on what skills and ideas Timebank Members have and are all led by the community and co-produced with the staff coordinators. Projects that have come from Members’ ideas include FoodCycle Lewisham WCW Bring and Fix local events and festivals and Lewisham Local Community Contributor Card. WildCat Wilderness (WCW)WCW was developed in 2014 when Timebank members wanted to develop a greenspace project with more activities and a respite from the busy urban area of Catford and Bellingham wards. Timebank Members and other volunteers from the community have transformed a neglected 5-acre site into a haven for nature and people with an organic food growing garden outdoor kitchen covered classroom orchard beehives and dye garden and well as wild areas for nature and play. WCW benefits over 2000 people a year. WCW is in Catford and the entrance is shared with Long Meadow Allotments next to 53 Riverview Park SE6 4PL. Beneficiaries include individuals struggling with mental/physical health professionals retired people families those wanting to volunteer in nature and children from five local schools plus a whole host of other charities and organisations we work with on projects or use the site on a regular basis. WCW offers a chance for all people to volunteer and give their time and skills which improves their mental and physical health and wellbeing through meeting others getting active connecting with nature feeling part of a community and valued for their contribution. There is approximately 2 acres of the site that is woodland and overgrown with brambles and with lots of rubbish making this area inaccessible. The Bellingham end of the WCW site currently has no fence and is not open to the public. The brambles and woodland area have so far provided a natural barrier ensuring WCW is safe for all ages. Funding for this project would see this space be opened uplth Trust IAPT - Improving Access to Psychological Therapies). The projects also work with local schools and community groups.
