This 14-month project is for young women aged 15-18 from the Orthodox Jewish community in Stamford Hill, Clapton and surrounding areas of North East London who can experience social isolation and have limited opportunities to access arts, employment and leadership opportunities and culturally appropriate social spaces and cannot use digital social platforms. The project delivers four weekly arts and media programmes and additionally offer four employment-readiness training sessions to help participants access employment opportunities, including those at the groups summer playscheme for high-school girls. Participants will build new friendships and connections across their diverse community which encompasses different sects. They will produce and showcase their own artworks in an editorial produced for news outlets, which aims to bring the community together through shared identity and help to reduce anti-semitism by providing positive press about the participants’ culture.

This one-year project establishes a weekly, culturally appropriate arts and crafts club for young women aged 15-19 from the Orthodox Jewish community living in the Stamford Hill area of Hackney, London. Activities will include hairstyling, floristry, pyrography, and making confectionary. The group will tackle social isolation and build cohesion within the diverse Orthodox Jewish community. Participants shape the project via a focus group which meet every other month with the organisation’s Youth Advisory Group.

Teen Action provides free training and support for disadvantaged YP in line with our four main areas: transitions, emotional health, skills development and recreation. The project we are applying for is called Innate Health, a certified program on developing mental and emotional health, tailored to include post COVID related emotional health. The grant funding will be used for the Innate Health and IHEART tutors' salary, participants' end of program AQA certification, and volunteer training. Through Innate Health we will be giving disadvantaged YP the tools to deal with their emotional being and mental health, giving people who are in difficult circumstances, have complex needs or harmful patterns of behaviour the tools they need to help themselves (including post - COVID).
