"The Armed Forces Covenant aims to: 1) the Armed Forces Covenant defines the enduring, general principles that should govern the relationship between the Nation, the Government and the Armed Forces community. 2) It aims to encourage all parties within a community to offer support to the local Armed Forces community and make it easier for Service personnel, families and veterans to access the help and support available from the MOD, from statutory providers and from the Charitable and Voluntary Sector. These organisations already work together in partnership at local level. 3) the scheme is intended to be a two-way arrangement and the Armed Forces community are encouraged to do as much as they can to support their community and promote activity which integrates the Service community into civilian life. Hampshire statistics are comparable with those published nationally by Home-Start UK (Impact Report 2017): 44% of all referrals cited loneliness / isolation as a support need when initially referred. 97% of these stated that they felt less isolated as a result of their Home-Start engagement demonstrating our effectiveness in delivering this type of support. 94% of parents supported reported improved self-esteem; 91% reported improved parental emotional health and wellbeing; 96% reported improved childrens emotional health and wellbeing. Families have quoted that support has been fantastic, helpful, helped me when I was at my lowest. Would recommend to anyone (Rushmoor mum of Twins whose partner passed away) and that support has enabled reduction in social isolation It has been really helpful having a volunteer come out and has given me the confidence to feel more able to cope with parenting my children and getting out more with them (Rushmoor mum with physical health issues) We expect to maintain this degree of success with the additional mothers supported by this project. Our workforce is 99% female. We do offer support for the whole family. However, fathers are often absent (through being at work, working away from home or not living with the family) when our volunteers visit so that our support is predominantly women supporting women. The volunteers in turn comment that the training was so thorough I felt that it really did set you up for the job and that It has been challenging, but a good experience that I would highly recommend to anyone (Rushmoor volunteers 2018). We expect that the training and support we offer to volunteers enables them to enhance their own community support networks and gain confidence to seek new opportunities, either within Home-Start or through further education, training and employment elsewhere.
