The purpose of this grant is to bring together work undertaken to prevent and support victims of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) specifically workstrands supporting children affected by domestic abuse (CADA) and 'what works' funding (WWF.) CADA workstrands aim to both support the children as victims and, in doing so, break cycles of violence. 'What works' funding is precisely that, to understand what works to prevent VAWG. Given the focus of both of this is prevention, most often in the early years space, the unit will compete them together to avoid duplication and look for opportunities to 'force maximise' (i.e. be greater than the sum of it's parts).

This project will enable women with lived experience of mental health and complex needs to come together from across our womens services, receive support and training, and provide peer support within existing and new drop-ins and groups to support other women. The project will offer the next step for women who have co-produced peer research projects into sex work, survival sex and sexual exploitation across the North and Yorkshire. It will also be available for women who have accessed our Domestic Abuse and Criminal Justice Services in the North and Midlands, who have experience of poor mental health, and are progressing to Stage 3 of our Theory of Change: Belonging -finding their own place within the community that supports their recovery journey.A peer-led worker will coordinate the project, delivering training to Peer Mentors, which will enable them to become peer supporters, co-facilitate group-work focused on wellbeing and running peer support drop-ins and social groups in their locality. Women will be funded to travel to access the training, which will be rooted in our trauma-informed approach, influenced by the work of Stephanie Covington. Our National Steering Group, established for women involved in our sex work, survival sex and sexual exploitation projects, will bring the Peer Mentors together to influence our learning and approach and feed into wider policy/system change. This will enable women to not only use their recovery journeys to support their peers but shape the way their stories are told on a national level.
