This workshop has helped me with some painful feelings and instead of feeling bad or ashamed of that pain I feel I can use it to make positive change. Excellent workshop, a truly brilliant group of women, sharing, caring, being different but in unity. Joyful, thought provoking, affirming, vulnerable and quietly powerful. This workshop helped me think about how physical movement connected with mind really can improve my health. Sometimes due to societal pressures and mental/emotional blocks it feels mentally unsafe to express myself with movement, so it was really powerful to have a supportive environment to explore this. Increased my self-esteem and loved being in a safe LGBT space. It was a great workshop, really enjoyed it and sharing the experience with others helped to reduce my isolation and feel part of the queer community. (Feedback from womens workshops) This programme will improve the mental health and emotional wellbeing of lesbian, bisexual and transgender women through culturally sensitive LGBT-affirmative support. Its focus on group support will help reduce isolation and build social networks, providing women with contact with peers, fostering a sense of community and belonging. The programme, delivered within our well established Edinburgh Mental Health Project, will enable us to better meet the needs of LBT women. IMPROVING HEALTH AND WELLBEING LBT women report that they have improved mental and emotional wellbeing. This will be indicated by beneficiaries reporting: Reduced prevalence of self-harm and suicidal behaviour Better mental and emotional health Feeling more in control of their life Feeling better about themselves. BUILDING SOCIAL NETWORKS LBT women report reduced isolation and increased connection with their community. Indicators reported by beneficiaries: Feeling less lonely and having more friends Feeling more connected to their community More able to access support from their peers.

Based in Glasgow, the LGBT Age Community Action Project will work to empower lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people aged 65 and over to identify and address community issues that are important to them. Older LGBT people are more likely to face prejudice from peers, less likely to have family support and are more isolated than their straight peers. It will complement LGBT Health & Wellbeing's established 50+ and wider work providing platforms that support seldom heard community voices to engender social change. The work aims to improve mental & emotional health, reduce social isolation and make people feel more empowered. The grant will fund a part-time worker and project costs.
