The funding will support Newton le Willows Family and Community Association (NLEFCC) to work with a wide range of community members across St Helens and provide a program of activities and support for local residents. In particular the community centre will focus on combatting social isolation through a significant expansion to the Befriending project that have run since 2020. This project will be extended to include a Men’s group running on a 12 week programme which would address the increasing need for support for men experiencing mental illness isolation suicidal feelings and struggling with caring responsibilities. NLEFCC also hope to expand the number of friendship calls made per week from 12 calls to 15-20.

Befriending in our Community

We would like to provide mental health support via a men's support group.

The centre provides a range of activities and services for the local community. Funding for the group will enable the organisation to expand their services.

We want to continue running playschemes, breakfast clubs and homework clubs to enhance the lives of the children in our community.

This development and expansion of an existing project run by Newton-le-Willows Family and Community Association will provide activities aimed at improving the quality of life for people in Newton-le-Willows. Healthy living activities will include dietary advice, cookery lessons, yoga, pilates, aromatherapy, reflexology, and Indian head massage. Financial capability courses will also be delivered, as will NVQ level II courses in IT, Helping in Schools, Family First Aid, and garment making and sewing.
