Suicide is a gender issue - 76% of all suicides in the UK are men. Societal definitions of masculinity play a significant role, making it difficult for many men to recognise and talk about their problems. This project will build the capacity of CALM's front line services so they are available to more high-risk young men who need urgent support. The helpline and web chat are both very oversubscribed and this funding will mean they can offer a longer service (12 hours a day) and offer more capacity to ensure they respond to all men who contact them. As a result more men will receive the help they need to better manage their mental health and reduce their suicide risk.
