urgent repairs necessary in the next 12 months to prevent the immediate loss of historic fabric and to ensure the building is safe to reuse. There has been concern for some time over the condition of the north western buttress on the north aisle. This substantial 45 degree buttress has been moving for a while rocking off on the foundations. However in the last 6 months the rate of movement has accelerated and there is real concern that this substantial masonry element will part from the body of the church. It is now unsafe to stand close to the buttress which is on the main path from the car park into the church and the internal cracks mean the interior of the west end of the north aisle cannot now be used. This is restricting the opening of the church. The solution is to underpin the buttress to hold it in its current position and then stainless steel anchor the buttress back into the body of the wall so it cannot go any further. The substantial internal and external cracks will then be lime grouted and pointed. This work is urgently needed to prevent immediate loss of historic fabric.
