All the females taking part in this project are living in temporary homeless accommodation with Newark Emmaus Trust. All have experienced the trauma and stress of being rejected by their families and of applying to come into homeless accommodation with our Charity, and Many have had chaotic lifestyles and have had very little, if any, support from family and friends. Newark Emmaus Trust is often their first experience of having settled accommodation along with the support they need to start moving forward towards being able to live independently. The Newark Emmaus Trust Ladies Well Being Project will enable these females to work on rebuilding self esteem, and self confidence while improving health and well being as well as opportunities to experience new skills enabling them to face new challenges. To enable them to sustain independent living they will need the confidence to manage debts and benefits and make positive choices on their health and well being. They will also need to have the social skills needed to build and sustain friendships and support networks. The weekly workshops / activities / experiences will provide all that attend the opportunity to gain new skills, learn coping techniques, raise self esteem, build friendship groups, access professional help and support and work alongside their peers making positive choices on a range of topics such as healthy eating, alcohol awareness, safe sexual health, substance misuse, anti social behavior offending, diet and exercise, health and mental health.

The project is at an existing building in need of refurbishment. The property is annexed to three terraced houses on a large corner plot providing living accommodation for 11 single homeless young people, all under 25 years old and all having complex needs. Situated in one of three most deprived areas of Newark–on-Trent, once re-furbished the building will provide a welcoming and friendly communal space for all of the 11 homeless young people accommodated in the attached houses. As well as providing space to socialise together, it will also provide a training room and communal kitchen where the residents will receive daily support to develop their basic and independent living skills through communal cooking and healthy living workshops as well as opportunities to improve their academic skills. Linked by a communal office the property will also provide a bedroom including an overnight facility for professional staff providing 24-hour sleep-in support.
