Many young people display poor knowledge of mental health problems and negative attitudes towards people experiencing, or who have a history of mental health problems. However, from our work and the current research, we know that mental health problems affect around one in six children. Also, young people say they are often not taken seriously by adults when it comes to mental health. This causes many to feel uncomfortable to speak out about their worries, for fear of the consequences.
