Who they support

Their grants programme is made up of a range of funds which help to address disadvantage and deprivation, and build resilience in Sussex communities. They are particularly keen to support grassroots community groups and small-to-medium sized voluntary organisations. Their general funds cannot support small contributions to large capital appeals or campaigns.

Grant criteria

The Sussex Crisis Fund has been set up to support the community and voluntary sector in response to the coronavirus outbreak. It is designed to help fund the emerging needs facing communities and the charities and community groups that support them, at this time. Initially, emergency grants of up to £5,000 are available. Argus Appeal Fund provides grants of up to £1,000 for smaller charities, voluntary and community groups or individuals in need across Sussex. It provides a quicker service for applicants who need a small grant or have an immediate or urgent funding need. Applications can be submitted at any time throughout the year. East Brighton Trust Fund supports charities, community and voluntary groups undertaking projects or events that benefit people who live in East Brighton. Grants up to £1,000. Westdene Fund gives grants of up to £1,000 to individual young people (aged 16-25 years) in Sussex with outstanding musical talent.

Application procedure

They normally have 3 main rounds of grant-giving each year. However, in 2020, there will be 2. Upcoming deadlines for applications (unless specified otherwise) is 5:00pm (1700 hours) as follows: Friday 11th September 2020 (Decisions in Autumn 2020), and Friday 8th January 2021 (Decisions in Spring 2021).
